Early Childhood Center

The Early Childhood Center (ECC) has been a self-supporting ministry of the First United Methodist Church of Oviedo since 1971, serving families in Oviedo and surrounding communities. ECC is licensed by DCF, the Florida Childcare licensing agent and is a member of the United Methodist Association of Preschools (UMAP).

The Purpose of ECC is to provide meaningful preschool learning experiences in a Christian envionment as a ministry of the community.

The Philosophy of ECC is to be grounded in Christian beliefs and the teaching of the Bible. ECC strives to provide a secure, nurturing, and stimulating environment for the preschool children. One that will spark their curiosity, foster a sense of independence, and encourage their natural desire for knowledge in a non-threatening, low-risk environment. We believe in the development of the whole child (social, emotional, spiritual, cognitive, physical). We believe that children learn and develop best through meaningful and purposeful play experiences and interaction with the world around them.

The Staff at ECC are dedicated Christian teachers and aides who meet one or more of the following criteria: experience working with young children, a CDA Certificate, an AA degree in Early Childhood Education or a BA in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education or related field. In accordance with DCF and UMAP, all staff go through a thorough background screening process, are certified in CPR and First Aid and complete a minimum of 10 hours of inservice training annually.

ECC offers a variety of classes for 2 through 4 year olds and is a VPK provider. All classes meet from 9:00-1:00. We now offer extended day for 3 and 4 year olds Monday through Thursday from 1:00-2:30 at a cost of $10/day.

Registration for 2010-2011 classes began in early February and will continue until all classes are filled. Once classes are full, a waiting list will be created.

Registration continues for the 2010-2011 school year.

As of March 1, ECC has openings in the following classes:

*2 day 2's (Wed & Thurs)

*Young 3's (Mon & Tues)

*2 day 3's (Mon & Tues)

*3 day 3's (Wed - Fri)

*4 day 3's (Tues - Fri)

*4 day 4's VPK (Mon - Thurs)
